Welcome to 2021: New Year Update

Greetings all!

Sam here!

As many of you know, 2020 was a very unique year! It caused some logistical issues, brought CERT a new coordinator, and the EMA a new Assistant Director!

Toward the end of 2020, there were some COVID-19 exposures which caused the EMA and CERT to stop activities because of quarantine procedures and the EMA’s efforts to keep volunteers safe!

We have some great training scheduled!

First up, on January 13 at 6 pm, there will be a WebEx training on the FEMA and CERT paperwork used by both Benton and Camden Counties. You will receive an email invitation with the link and dial in information for this training shortly. There will be no IN-PERSON meeting for CERT for January 2021.

Tim has already chosen the training topics for meetings throughout the year and will updated the calendar here on our website soon. Included in those topics are radio communications, trailer, chainsaw, fire rehab, and a tabletop exercise (IN PERSON) over the next few months!

So far, the only confirmed event on the books is the Magic Dragon Street Meet. Though it runs from April 30 through May 2, they have asked for CERT just for May 1. Feel free to let Tim know if you are available. You can find more information on their Facebook page.

Other possible events include Dogwood Festival, Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, CanAm Games, Chamber’s Lake Expo, Polar Run, and more.

Thank you to those who have given so generously of their time. We are excited about the opportunities 2021 brings.

  2. Sam, is there going to be a CERT meeting tomorrow, January 5th covering document training? In your January 4 2021 blog you mentioned a training WebEx training of FEMA/CERT paperwork on January 13th at 6 p,m.; is this replacing the January 5th CERT meeting? If not, how will you be doing the virtual meeting on the 5th?
